The wait is almost over. From August 20th to 23rd, KESKfEST transforms Toronto into a vibrant, Northern European cultural campus.
We are in the homestretch—our veidi veel—of finalizing KESKUS, our permanent global landmark! Whether you have deep Estonian roots or you’re discovering the magic for the first time, this is your roadmap for Day 1 festivities. Be sure to read all the way through to uncover some saladused (secrets) not yet shared with anyone else.

Morning
11:00 AM - Kick off KESKfEST! Join us to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Estonian de facto independence and for an exclusive Veidi veel (homestetch) unveiling as we approach the finish line of welcoming KESKUS to the world.
Featured guests include Estonia’s Minister of Education and Research, Kristina Kallas; the Tallinn Chamber Choir (Estonia), Ukulele (Estonia); and more! If you need accessibility accomodations, reserve a spot here!
Join our daily free KESKUS tours throughout the KESKfEST festival to be among the first to see the building firsthand. Please keep in mind that Thursday's tours are our only accessible tours and spots are strictly limited. Reserve your spot here!
To skip the stress of parking, we recommend taking the subway to Spadina or St. George stations, both just steps away. For those driving, Green P parking is available at the North-East quadrant of Bloor / Spadina, and at the OISE and UTS buildings.

Luncheon
Beyond the frontlines: Security, tech & society - Luncheon & podcast recording (12:30 PM)
We often talk about security in terms of borders and military. But what if our national defence actually started in the classroom? Join Steve Paikin for a special live luncheon recording of The Paikin Podcast at KESKfEST. He’ll sit down with Estonia’s Minister of Education and Research, Kristina Kallas, to explore how her tech-forward nation uses AI to combat misinformation, bridge societal divides, and safeguard democracy from the ground up.
Living on Europe’s frontline, Minister Kallas champions a vital premise: true sovereignty requires military might, but it is ultimately anchored in a united society, a shared language, and "education as defense." Afternoon: Music and Hidden History
Choral concert at Trinity-St. Paul’s (2:30 PM):
Experience an afternoon where music becomes a journey. We’re hosting a unique encounter between the Tallinn Chamber Choir, the Estonian National Opera Boys’ Choir, and the Mägi Ensemble in the acoustically renowned Trinity St-Paul’s sanctuary. Patron ticket holders receive special in-concert thanks for supporting this world-class choral experience.
For centuries, singing has been Estonia’s “peaceful weapon”—a tool for survival and connection. Come for the harmonies, but stay for the feeling of a universal language just 300m from KESKfEST headquarters. Tickets here.
Walking tours (4:30 PM) Thurs/Fri/Sat:
Join your host Christina Prozes on the first of three walking tours of the KESKUS area known as The Annex, a neighbourhood named one of the "Top 40 Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World" by Time Out Magazine.
Explore this historic enclave, known for its flamboyant late-1880s Victorian mansions and the unique, space-age sculptural towers of Estonian architect Uno Prii. From the 400-year-old Bur Oak to local urban legends, this tour is the perfect way to orient yourself. Please wear comfortable shoes as we’ll cover plenty of ground! Day 1 is sold out!
Evening: Theatre, Design & Celebration
Klarissa Kirjad (Klarissa’s Letters) (5:00 PM):
Back by popular demand from its premiere a decade ago, this is a deeply personal story of love and resilience. Based on real letters, we follow Elmar to a Siberian gulag and Klarissa to Canada, and hang on to the thread of hope that binds them. The ground floor is fully accessible, in Estonian with English surtitles. Tickets available here!
Estonian Design Showcase (5:30 PM):
Meet the visionaries leading the Estonian Association of Designers (EAD) at this exclusive pop-up. Shop the showcase of high-quality fashion, textiles, furniture and unique creative pieces. If you see something you love, don't wait—many pieces are limited-run or one-of-a-kind. More exciting details to come about getting up close with Estonian design - think runway! Sneak Peek for Valguspidu (6:30 PM – 7:00 PM) ft. Malmöflickorna, TERR Kungla, and Jõgevahe Pere
Get a first taste of Valguspidu under the open sky. Join us at Taddle Creek Park for gymnastic and rahvatants / folk dance performances by Malmöflickorna, TERR Kungla and Jõgevahe Pere before they take the Valguspidu stage. If you’re busy with back to back events, feel free to bring your own dinner for Al fresco entertainment. Free; weather permitting.
Föörst Blääst (7:00 PM – Late)
End your day at FÖÖRST BLÄÄST, a lively celebration featuring local band favourite, Kalevipogues. Known for their energetic covers from the ‘60’s to the 2020’s with a sprinkling of Estonian folk classics. This is a ticketed event with limited capacity—secure your tickets early to ensure you don’t miss the party! Get them here.
Salakõrts: The Speakeasy (19+)
Top off every KESKfEST night starting 11pm at the Salakõrts at Tartu College—an esto tradition! It’s the perfect spot to unwind and connect with others after the main events - on KESKfEST Day 1, first up on stage is Le Brünk, from Belgium, and then we have a go at singing together - songsheets provided! Tickets here.
