Pathway to Freedom
Jäädvusta oma pere lugu
Help tell our story, with your family's story.
Along the many pathways to freedom with the mass flight from Estonia more than 80 years ago, our stories evolve to this day. You can engrave your family's story right into the heart of North America's 4th largest city, at KESKUS.
Estonian Arts Centre presents the Pathway to Freedom paver stone project at KESKUS International Estonian Centre courtyard. Paver stones are now being quarried in Kaarma, Saaremaa, Estonia and once inscribed with our stories, will be placed within the concentric circles of waves into the KESKUS courtyard.
These stones will preserve this chapter of history even after we're gone. /// Igal eestlasel on loendamatuid lugusid oma pere saatusest. Hoiame oma rahva ajalugu päevakorras, et ka me enda tulevased põlvkonnad seda ei unustaks.
Cost of each paver is CDN$1,944* which amount is a nod to the year of the mass flight from Estonia, 1944. Engraving is an additional fee.*
What specific detail of your family story has stayed with you and should be memorialised? What adds colour and humanity to what could otherwise present as facts, dates or geographies - provide a specific detail. There are only 75 characters (depending on ability to condense on a line, possible maximum of 81) characters including spaces, to do so, per paver, samples in the video, and here:
Each paver stone is approximately 12" x 12" (30cm x 30cm). More than one paver needed for the varied pathways to freedom in your family? Submit a new form below, and pay the donation amount corresponding to the number of pavers, we'll match it up and confirm with you.
