KESKUS ground floor readying for glazing
Watch this 1-minute video to see construction status!
All of the floors of KESKUS now have their base slab poured and the sunsets from the top floor, now that this area can be accessed, are something to behold! The site is becoming a popular destination for local groups and tour groups from Estonia (and Finland), both!
Guests and groups touring the KESKUS site, by row top to bottom: korp! Filiae Patriae sorority, retired medical doctors and donors to KESKUS Jaanus & Reet Marley, Hon. Chrystia Freeland's Chief of Staff Shelley Kulperger with KESKUS project lead Ellen Valter (left), Lake Peipus area fisheries association from Estonia, Mainor Travel tour group from Estonia, members of mixed choir Ööbik, Marika Järvet, Nou Pois Äläud instructor back on site from Estonia for a 4th time, and eMBA students from Tampere University's KIINKO real estate program (Finland) with development manager David Kalm (right).

The subway tunnel areas have now been backfilled with gravel and the tunnels are sealed off. This concludes the transit commission's involvement on site...we merrily wave them farewell! /// Tunnelite servad on nüüd täidetud kruusaga ja ligipääs suletud. Sellega on ühistranspordiameti töö platsil lõppenud… lehvitame neile rõõmsalt järele!
The ceiling and floor of the portico of the heritage wing of KESKUS are ready for concrete, the windows will be restored later in the construction process. /// KESKUS-e muinsuskaitse all oleva tiiva portikuse lagi ja põrand on valmis betoneerimiseks, aknad taastatakse hilisemas ehitusetapis.
Infloor heating is installed on the perimeter of all floors of the building. Forming for the slab to cover this work will take place early October and the concrete will be poured shortly thereafter. Electrical and mechanical work has reached the grand hall floor with rough-ins for the washrooms now installed.. ///Põrandaküte on paigaldatud kõigil korrustel hoone perimeetri ulatuses. Selle töö katteks mõeldud plaadi raketistamine toimub oktoobri alguses ja betoon valatakse peagi pärast seda. Elektri- ja ventilatsioon/mehhanikatööd on jõudnud 2-e korruse tualettruumideni.

Looking forward, the ground floor floating slab is being formed and ground floor glass install is scheduled to start after Thanksgiving. Before that, though, a 2" layer of rubber (made from recycled tires) will be laid down before the second concrete layer of concrete is poured. This floating system is the third line of defence against any acoustic or physical vibration arising from the subway tunnels underground. /// Edasi vaadates: esimese korruse ujuvplaat on rakestamiseni jõudnud ning esimese korruse klaasipaigalduse algus on planeeritud pärast tänupüha. Enne seda paigaldatakse 2-tolline kummikiht (taaskasutatud rehvidest), millele järgneb teine betoonikiht. See ujuvsüsteem on kolmas kaitseliin metrooalustest tunnelitest tuleneva akustilise või füüsilise vibratsiooni ennetamiseks.
KESKUS International Estonian Centre in downtown Toronto will be a dynamic hub showcasing our rich heritage and promoting Estonian innovation. It will be a vibrant gathering place for Estonians of all generations and backgrounds to connect, celebrate, and share our culture and achievements with each other and the world.
