April 1, 2022 - A rooftop sauna at KESKUS was the dream for the International Estonian Centre project from the beginning, with a glass-domed rooftop slide into a courtyard plunge pool. Zoning by-laws, as well as some public decency ordinances have delayed realizing this dream. However now, due to a legal loophole, the KESKUS team discovered a way for this community centre to become the central sauna location for all of North America.
While the rooftop sauna and outdoor slide is still caught up in protracted by-law processes, KESKUS will be renamed KESKUS International Estonian Sauna Centre, or saunaKESKUS for short and reimagined for all sauna all the time: all activities will be housed within a sauna that is the entire building!
This way, you can enjoy all of your favourite Estonian activities at SaunaKESKUS, with the bonus that you can sauna at the same time!
To keep costs down and maximize the work that has already been done, the KESKUS structure remains unchanged. With the simple addition of sauna rocks, benches, and leili buckets to the spaces you already know and love, all you need to bring is your towel!
On the go but wanting a quick sauna session? Our staircase sauna is for you!
Interested in catching a live performance in the Grand Hall? Relax on your personal saunalava while watching the action on the suurlava!
Choir practice in the music room? Harmonize as you sweat it out with fellow tenors and sopranos.
Cool off on the rooftop in good company of friends and new friends. And when you’re all done, we hope to soon announce that the rooftop slide to plunge pool received city approval so you can head straight home after your plunge, invigorated and ready to meet the day.
