About the event

Keep the energy going after Atomic Heeringas' electrifying show by heading across the street to Salakõrts, KESKfEST’s after-hours speakeasy at Tartu College!

Doors open at 11:00 PM, so make your way over after the show, grab a drink, find your people and get ready for even more live music and dancing late into the night.

Roland Campbell and his band will get things started with a lively set drawing on their joyful, nostalgic pop-punk sound. Then Ukulele, reuniting especially for KESKfEST, invites musicians to join them onstage with their instruments, to close out the night with the kind of lively Estonian jam session made for dancing and singing along.

Meet the Lineup

Roland Campbell is a singer-songwriter based in Toronto. He creates arrangements for his songs with Lloyd Ponce (keyboard/bass) and Morgan Dunbar (drummer/producer). Together they have been exploring the notion of “pop-punk nostalgia”, alluding to the ethos of early 2000s pop-punk. His aim is to have his songs be raucous and joyful: a glimmer of light in people’s lives.

Ukulele is an Estonian band formed in Tallinn in 1984, known for lively, danceable music with four-part harmonies at its heart. They are reuniting especially for KESKfEST! Ukulele's repertoire brings together Estonian folk melodies, familiar favourites and arrangements of music by Raimond Valgre and other Estonian composers, creating the kind of joyful sound that invites the whole room to sing and dance along.

But there's more! The band also has a special connection to Toronto. In 1991, Estonian folk band Ukulele came to Canada to participate in Estonian Arts Centre's "7 Arts Retreat" (Seitse kunsti laager). Little did they know how historic their trip would be: on August 20, while the band was visiting, Estonia restored its independence and jubilant confusion ensued. The following evening, Ukulele took the stage at Toronto Eesti Maja, as emotion ran high and as Estonians worldwide were absorbing the enormity of a moment they had waited a lifetime to see. Now, 35 years later, Ukulele returns to Canada!
