November 2023 construction update

Update / Teade #195

October saw a lot of action as the KESKUS project is now in Phase II of construction - that is, starting to rise back up from the depths of the excavation. /// Oktoobris toimus palju silmale nähtavat, kuna KESKUSe projekt on nüüd II-s ehitusjärgus – s.t. hakkab kaevesügavustest tagasi tänavatasemele kerkima.

To recap, the deep foundation work has caissons and micropiles embedded some 77 ft into bedrock, which work was completed around the end of last year, and the shallow foundation work has since been the focus, including working with the TTC to inspect and repair the tunnels. This work with third party involvement slowed construction considerably but the administrative work is nearly complete and physical construction on the tunnels themselves will start shortly /// Kokkuvõtteks, sügavundamenditööd mille käigus aluskaljusse mingi 77 jala sügavusse puurit ja kinnitet kessonid ja mikrovaiad lõpetati eelmise aasta lõpus ning sellest saadik on tööd olnud pinnale lähedamad vundamenditööd. Sellele n.ö. võõra osalus objektil aeglustas ehitust märkimisväärselt, kuid nende haldustöö on peaaegu lõppenud ja tunnelite endi füüsiline ehitus algab peagi.

Basement construction on the north part of the property has progressed well during this time. Grade beams to interconnect the caisson caps have been formed and are ready for being poured full of concrete. The below slab structure will be backfilled and then covered with the basement slab that will be the actual basement floor.

In other words, all of this work will be covered up underneath the KESKUS basement, so catch a look at this monumental foundation while it's still exposed!

Surrounding the perimeter of the basement against the shoring is a black waterproofing membrane which sandwiches the sound and physical vibration attenuation materials - these are the gray foam slabs that are reminiscent of summer camp mattresses!

After the basement slab is poured, the vertical structure will begin to be formed as construction approaches grade level. It's getting exciting!

Sincere thanks goes to the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario for its support of courtyard construction, read more about this generous support here. /// Siiras tänu Kanada valitsusele FedDev Ontario kaudu praeguste ehitustööde toetamise eest.
